You may have seen my newest avatar already, but I'd like to know what everyone thinks of it. I scanned the original heartagram image from a HIM CD and went to work on it with Photoshop. I added the "boxy" effect and made all that transparent and then went back and gave it an old "tattered paper"-ish look. I want to go and maybe give it an old-west shading effect, but I just got Photoshop yesterday, and still don't know what I'm doing. >>; Anyway, comment please! I can't learn what I'm doing wrong if nobody tells me. -.o

Transparency in photoshop? Just use the eraser to erase out parts you want transparent then save it in gif format with transparency enabled, another way is something to do with the colour palatte I think.. can't recall for sure ><
Anyway the avatar is looking spiffy! Fab idea to cut out parts and then arrange them accordingly. Plus the pink colour works well too. Good job on your first attempt at photoshop! :0

Yeah.. the only other image editing thingy I've ever used is MS Paint. As for transparency, I first created a transparent layer and then put the layer with the heartagram over it. Then, I used the marquee tool to select the parts (one by one - on the image layer [2nd]) that I wanted to be transparent, and pressed 'delete'. Afterwards, I saved it as a gif with 'transparency' enabled. o.o [Edit:] Thanks, Kyuu! ^_^

Whee, I shall have to try that, then. x3 All this time I've been using paint shop to make stuff transparent. ;

Your avatar is quite unique -- I really like the concept of it! ^___^
For being new to Photoshop, you've really started out quite well. I have never had more than a trial version of PS... .___.;;

Thank you, Lal! =D I don't know about starting out well at Photoshop, though. I've had it for four days now, and for the first three I didn't even know I had another Adobe program: ImageReady. (Apparently, it came with PS.) So, I've been putting it to work on a few things. There's one thing in particular that I'd like to show everyone. Smite - Sig(It's a rather large file [~250kb] so please give it time to load.) So, if you folks don't mind, have a look and tell me what you think. ^_^

Wow. You're certainly better at this whole photoshop thing than I am!
I have Photoshop Elements and I can make moving images, but I'm not sure what else it does.
Kudos on the icon and sig - they're very lovely.

That looks very good. ^_^
I have Photoshop Elements, and I love it! Graphics design is a hobby of mine, so I love to do things like manipulate pictures among other things. Ehsi, Elements is basically a watered-down version of Photoshop. I've noticed some of its limits, but that hasn't stopped me yet!
Anyhow, that's really great for your first try! I could show you one of my first Photoshop works, and I'll tell you right now that it would pale in comparison to yours.
